ELONGATED PADDLES

HOW TO CUSTOMIZE AN ELONGATED PADDLE

STEP-BY-STEP SETUP

Elongated paddles naturally generate great plow-through and feel smooth on drives and full swings when you have time to set up. The tradeoff is they’re more head-heavy and have a narrower sweet spot side to side.

The goal here is to improve maneuverability and expand the sweet spot while keeping the natural power and plow-through these paddles are known for.

SETUP RECOMMENDATION

LIGHTWEIGHT BUILD

This is my go-to starting point for most elongated paddles and a setup you’ll see a lot of pro players use.

What you'll need:

  • Two 3g strips (cut from 0.5g-per-inch tape)
  • Overgrip

Placement:

  • Start each strip just above the grip
  • Let it cover the throat, bottom corners, and run up the sides

This adds stability by giving you a small sweet spot boost while improving maneuverability at the net. Because the weight sits below the balance point, it keeps swingweight increases minimal.

What it changes:

  • Increases swingweight by ~1.3 points
  • Boosts twistweight by ~0.35 points

Fine tuning:

  • If it feels too heavy, add a 9g Cap Coin to the base of the handle
  • If it feels too light, slide the weight up about two inches

Small adjustments make a big difference.

Finish it off with an overgrip to keep your handle fresh and dialed in.

Why this works:

This setup adds side stability without significantly raising swingweight, which is key since elongated paddles already start higher. Keeping more mass closer to the handle improves net speed and hand battles.

SETUP RECOMMENDATION

HEAVYWEIGHT BUILD

This build delivers a bigger sweet spot boost than the lightweight build while still improving maneuverability.

What you'll need:

  • Two 3g strips (cut from 0.5g-per-inch tape)
  • One 12g Cap Coin
  • Overgrip

Placement:

  • Start each strip 2–3 inches above the grip
  • Let it cover the bottom corners and run up the sides

Since we’re placing weight slightly higher this adds more weight to the sides which improves the sweet spot more and then the 12g Cap Coin offsets the higher weight placement to improve the paddles balance and hand speed.

What it changes:

  • Increases swingweight by ~2.5 points
  • Boosts twistweight by ~0.55 points

Fine tuning:

  • If it feels too heavy, move the tape down about an inch
  • If it still feels too light, move the tape up about an inch

Small adjustments make a big difference.

Finish it off with an overgrip to keep your handle fresh and dialed in.

Why this works:

This setup gives you a bigger stability boost than the lightweight build while the Cap Coin keeps balance in check. The result is improved maneuverability at the net without sacrificing the power elongated paddles are known for.
