WORLD #2 FEDERICO STAKSRUD'S SETUP

JOOLA KOSMOS PRO V 16mm

Goal: As one of the best players in the world, Federico Staksrud has developed a very specific feel for how he likes a paddle to perform. The world No. 2 in singles recently released his signature JOOLA paddle, the Kosmos Pro V 16mm, and also shared how he personally sets it up. Here’s the configuration and why he likes it this way.

WEIGHT SETUP

What you'll need:

  • 1g per inch Tungsten or Tuning roll
  • Overgrip

Placement:

Add 5 ¾ inches of 1g/inch tape on each side starting 1 ¼ inches above the handle. Add overgrip.

Why this placement?

Federico prefers weight closer to his hand instead of a head-heavy balance so he “feels like his hand is controlling the paddle.” Since he also values a responsive, poppy feel, keeping the added weight lower on the head helps preserve hand speed by keeping the balance point down.

Fine tuning:

If the paddle still feels a bit heavy, he suggests adding two small strips on the butt cap in a plus-sign pattern to counterbalance the head weight and help the paddle move more easily.

THE RESULT

The lower balance point adds control while the more stable face improves consistency, all while keeping the paddle fast and responsive on counters.
